AI can compose heavy music, determine the age of children based on the eyes movement and diagnose posttraumatic stress disorder. Learn more about this information and other AI events – in the digest below.

5G Connectivity for Smart Roads to be tested in Ukraine

The Ministry of infrastructure of Ukraine has cooperated with Vodafone and Nokia to launch a pilot project for loT implementation on roads based on fifth-generation (5G) connectivity.

The project is determined to create a single network of smart roads, allowing to analyze traffic flows and making traffic safer. The project is divided into three phases: testing, scaling and full implementation.

Nowadays, H-O1 pilot section of the highway is equipped with technologies. Further, the data will be collected using LTE, and from the second half of 2019, fifth generation (5G) connectivity will be available in this area. At the end of the project, the latest technologies will cover all Ukrainian roads.

Alphabet is Developing Smart City Signages

Sidewalk Labs, the subsidiary company of Alphabet, creates signages for smart cities that will warn citizens of being watched.

Due to the installation of sensors and cameras in smart cities for face identification and traffic flows prediction, Sidewalk Labs considers it right to warn residents of monitoring them.

Smart signages will report that data collection equipment is used within a radius of several hundred meters. Such signs will appear first in New York and Toronto, and later will be introduced to other cities.

AI Composes Death Metal Music

American programmers together with Dadabots musicians learned AI to compose death metal music on the air. The neural network was trained with music of Archspire band. The algorithm has learned to mix drums, guitar and vocals, resulting in heavy music.

AI has made the high-quality material that does not require selection, thus the developers allowed the algorithm to write music in real time.

AI Determines Age of Children Based on Eyes Movement

Scientists from the University of Minnesota have taught the algorithm to determine the age of children based on the movement of their eyes.

In order to gather the data required for the training, the researchers tested 19 children under the age of 1.5 years, as well as 22 children aged 2.5 years.

With the help of devices tracked eye movements, scientists created a heat map for each aging group that showed which objects of images primarily attracted the attention of children.

It turned out that 1.5-year-old children first look at faces while older children look at objects. The neural network was trained on the basis of the collected information and tested. Analyzing the trajectory of eye movement, AI determined an accurate age of children in 83% of cases.

AI Diagnoses Posttraumatic Stress Disorder by voice

Scientists from the New York University School of Medicine have created a program that diagnoses posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)of military veterans based on their voice.

In order to gather the necessary data, the researchers spoke with hundreds of American soldiers with PTSD, who participated in the hostilities in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The created AI analyzes the words, as well as their frequency, rhythm and articulation characteristics of the language. Based on the information, the algorithm recognizes the voice of people with posttraumatic syndrome with a probability of 89%.
