What is the concept of an AI ethics code? How can an artificial intelligence system determine a song’s mood? Are AI technologies able to increase profit of industrial companies? These and other news are revealed in our digest.
Artificial intelligence ethics
Germany-based SAP has developed an ethics code for AI technologies. Its primary goal is not to prevent discrimination against people.
The code consists of seven points specifying that AI development companies are obliged to adhere to the safety rules, as well as not to leave people with no job and replace them by machines.
The company is also going to train its staff and students in AI operations so that people will be able to work with these technologies.
In 2016, Amazon, DeepMind, Facebook, IBM, and Microsoft established the Partnership on AI aimed at solving ethics issues related to the AI sector. In July 2018, 164 organizations promised not to develop weapons based on artificial intelligence.
Deezer designs a song mood determining AI system
Deezer developers have created an AI system able to define the mood of songs.
To determine the dynamics and mood of a song, the Deezer team processed the audio file and lyrics at the same time.
They used the Million Song Dataset base containing only meta data and songs from Deezer’s catalog.
Developers have concluded that this AI system determines whether a song is fast or sad better than non-AI systems.
Microsoft to allocate $40 m for AI technologies
At Ignite 2018, Microsoft representatives said that they were going to spend $40 million for new AI systems in the following 5 years.
The company will evolve them in order to predict natural calamities, rescue children, and help refugees. Such technologies will be more flexible and safer.
It is just the first part of Microsoft’s plan to improve life quality and help people.
HPE finds out that AI will increase profit of industrial companies
HPE conducted a study and discovered that revenues of industrial companies integrating AI would grow by 11.6% by 2030.
At the Industry of Things World conference, HPE members and organizers carried out a survey among 858 representatives of the manufacturing industry. It has shown that industrial enterprises would integrate AI technologies to speed up operations and collect information.
Moreover, those already integrating AI said that they managed to enhance their planned performances.
